NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship

About the course

This apprenticeship route is designed for learners who want to begin a career in early years while developing practical knowledge, confidence and day-to-day understanding in a real setting. It supports learners in building the skills needed to work with babies and young children from birth to 7 years, with applied knowledge focused on the early years age range. The qualification also meets the Department for Education’s Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
· support babies and young children through safe, purposeful and engaging practice
· apply safeguarding and welfare requirements with confidence
· contribute to the planning and delivery of activities and educational programmes
· support children’s development, well-being and physical activity
· work effectively as part of an early years team in a real setting

Course details

· Duration: 9–12 months
· Delivery: Workplace learning + tutor support + structured study
· Assessment: Internally assessed units, portfolio of evidence and workplace observation
· Placement / Work-based learning: Learners must be working, volunteering or on practical placement in an early years setting. Around 250 placement hours are recommended.

Entry requirements

· Aged 16+
· No prior qualifications required
· Must have access to a real early years working environment, placement or apprenticeship setting

Progression

On completion, learners can progress to:
· employment as a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner
· roles such as nursery practitioner, classroom assistant or pre-school practitioner
· further study including a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification
